photos of cob walls

My love for these gorgeous walls was sparked by my cobbing friends in Madison!
When i first came to San Cristobal i thought large parts of town must be built of brick, stone or god forbid, concrete, like so much of the newer structures in Mexico. Bit by bit crumbling plaster and rust red stained surfaces revealed to me that the whole of the Historic town was built of Cob. The visual Richness of Cob buildings, their beveled corners, sculptural relief, painted and crumbling plaster and the feeling of living in lovingly stacked earth cannot be beat. Thankfully strict building codes are in place to maintain the warm character of Colonial San Cristobal.
